The National Board Certification for Principals Process

The assessment for National Board Certification for Principals is comprised of six entries. To meet the requirements of each entry, principals will prepare and submit for review a range of products and performances including data collection and analysis, audio and video artifacts, written plans and reflections, and interviews.

Entry 1: Contextual Profile and Strategic School Plan (Due November 1, 2011)
In this entry, principals will demonstrate how they develop and execute an aligned school plan that cultivates a positive culture and maintains balance between a well-managed building and the teaching and learning process. Principals will administer the web-based Learning Community Engagement and Leadership Survey to their stakeholder groups for this entry.

Entry 2: Student Efficacy and Growth (Due December 31, 2012)
In this entry, principals will demonstrate how all students are known, valued, supported and challenged to reach high levels of achievement in their physical, emotional and intellectual development.

Entry 3: Teacher Efficacy and Effectiveness (Due December 31, 2012)
In this entry, principals will demonstrate instructional leadership and the ability to build organizational capacity by identifying quality teachers and developing and implementing a comprehensive system of professional learning that results in student achievement.

Entry 4: Parent and Community Engagement (Due December 31, 2012)
In this entry, through outreach, advocacy and parent education, principals will communicate the school's vision and mission to all segments of the school community garnering support for student growth.

Entry 5: Principal's Leadership, Growth and Reflection (Due December 31, 2012)
In this entry, principals will provide evidence of a culture that demonstrates continuous reflective practice. Through personal reflection, principals will assess their professional leadership practice, content, and personal growth.

Entry 6 Continuous Improvement and Accountability (Due December 31, 2012)
In this entry, principals will provide evidence of results achieved in the targeted areas of the strategic school plan and identify next steps. Principals will re-administer the web-based Learning Community Engagement and Leadership Survey to their stakeholder groups toward the end of the 2011/12 school year for this entry.

All requirements for principal certification will be completed at the school site and submitted via a secure website.
